EVALUATION QN 1: GENRE CONVENTIONS

EVALUATION QUESTION 1: GENRE CONVENTIONS

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

  • The purpose of a film promotion package
A film promotional package would include a trailer, poster, and magazine. This will create interest into our film so the audience can decide if they would want to come and see the entire film. Secondly, it will create some intesepitian towards the release date of the film. Our target audience is between 15-30.
  • Genre conventions
Our film trailer will be 2 minutes long just like many other film trailers.
  • The film's USP
The USP in our film would be the different uses of camera shots. we have used an iPhone 7 to shoot many of the shots and have also included drone shots in our trailer. Both are shot in 4K.
  • Production company ident
Our production company is called 'Blondie productions' and we have created an ident in Final cut pro that we have added to the begging of out trailer.
  • Genre
The genre of our film is thriller/action. We will show this by having many short cuts to create tension and a dynamic rhythm. We also don't want to give too much of the plot away by having longer shots.
  • Sound codes
We have chosen an intense soundtrack that we have also edited. There is also not a lot of dialogue in the trailer.
  • Camerawork and framing
We have included a wide range of shots such as a bird’s eye view shot which we achieved with the drone as well as pan shots, tilt shots as well as still shots. When taking these shots we considered about the text that we will edit in.
  • Editing
We have edited the trailer to be fast paced and dynamic in order to keep the tension as well as keep people entertained by having short cuts. We have used FinalCut Pro as well as After effects in tower to have special effects, soundtracks, and sound effects that we can add to tense moments in order to intensify them.
  • The creation of enigma
We thought that creating an enigma for our trailer would be necessary to draw peoples attention and keep them on the edge of their seats wanting to know more. This is created by the scenes that include the victim and the 3 main characters that are brainwashed into risking their own life as well as risking someone else's.
  • Institutional genre conventions
Puffs, titles and social media will all appear at the end as the people will want to know more about the film at the end of the trailer. It will also be the last thing they see making them remember it for the future.
  • What was effective?
The most effective filming and editing we did were the ones we planned together rather than doing random shots and editing that didn't work. We have reshot some of the footage that will appear in the feedback question which I think was the most effective footage that we have gathered as well as the drone footage that creates a sense of a grande production budget.
